33/45 (live), Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, Sept 15

The band will be bridging the gap between slick DJ sets from Leon Easter, Roy M, The Blonde Flash, Jo Myles and the rawer tones of live instrumentation

33/45 have decided to kick things up a notch by taking the night live - they've established their own house band, My Mate's Odd, and you can catch them twice a month at Cabaret Voltaire. Promoter and resident DJ Leon Easter believes that adding a live element keeps the crowd interested, giving them something to interact with. My Mate's Odd is made up of vocalist Jayne C Wright, keyboardist Paul Keene, bassist Findlay, saxophonist Saxingh, and Aki on guitar. You may have already caught Jayne's acappella interludes during DJ sets and Saxingh performing around Edinburgh at Bacardi B-Live events, and even T in the Park. The band will be bridging the gap between slick DJ sets from Leon Easter, Roy M, The Blonde Flash, Jo Myles and the rawer tones of live instrumentation. Roy M and Leon will be producing the band, drawing on Roy's own production experience – earlier this year his tracks were being blasted out on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix. House, house and more house music is the order of the day, and if you're into your Tokyoblu shenanigans then you should check out what 33/45 has to offer. [Alex Burden]
