DJ Chart: Dan Bland (Gritty Product / Radio Magnetic)

The man behind Edinburgh's Gritty Product record label, home to B-Burg, Profisee and a plethora of local hip-hop headz, and a former resident at the much-missed Solid Steel nights at the Bongo, Dan Bland gives us a top ten from his Radio Magnetic show.

Feature by Dan Bland | 12 Dec 2006

1. Danny Breaks - Hand Exercise #2 (Alphabet Zoo)
Absolutely hilarious track from the Transmit Fantastic EP, currently our tune of the week on The Gritty Product show. Lots of cut up samples about "correct fingering" and a killer organ hook.

2. DJ Skull - Head Basher (Djax Up Beats)
Brilliant track that was featured on the Jeff Mills mix 'Live At The Liquid Rooms' but Jeff in his wisdom got the track wrong on the CD. Classic Djax Up Beats and the other four tracks on the release are just as good, but this one edges it.

3. Knifehandchop - eturn to Chinatown (Tigerbeat 6)
Drum and bass monster from Billy AKA Knifehandchop. Turn the subwoofer up and sit back.

4. Bug & Daddy Freddy - Run The Place Red (AFX Remix) (AFX)
Mad ragga, glitch hardcore. Completely nuts. Essential in the box for finishing off a crowd that still has (or thinks it has) energy left to dance. Oh yes, the other two tracks on the flipside are un-listenable! Ha!

5. Louie 'Phat Kat' Vega - Saxy Nine (Jazz Club)
Quite an old tune that I recently re-discovered. Lots of samples of old jazz tunes chucked together by Louie Vega of Masters At Work fame, come together to produce a hip-hop track that's fatter than MC Hammers trousers.

6. Kid 606 - Who Wah Kill Sound - (Tigerbeat6)
If sound needed to be killed Kid 606 is the man to do it. Choice cut from the amazing album 'Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You.' Ragga jungle at 300mph, what more do we need?

7. Matchstick Men - We're So Money (Unsigned)
Crazy daft as a brush track from the guys who I do the radio show with. Has to be heard to be believed. For more info check www.myspace.com/thamatchstickmen

8. Penpushers - Silicon Infants (KFM)
Fresh from the new album, a classic cut up tune with DJ Extra & Kemo on the cuts. Check the new album 'Poltergeeks' for some freakishly strong Edinburgh action. An interview with The Penpushers will be on our show in the coming weeks so keep an ear to the ground.

9. The Amazing Rollo - It's Easy To Get Used To (Unsigned)
Jan the Man. Half American half French producer currently studying sound design in the Scottish capital. Top track from his debut album 'That Happened To Me Once.' This guy will be massive.

10. FOUND - Mullokian (Surface Pressure)
Toughly nice bunch of guys who produce blissed out grooves to very high acclaim. Recently played at the BBC Electric Proms in London and Manchester. This is their current single, and what a tune! Another Edinburgh act which has the capability to sell to a worldwide audience.
