Listen to Salena Godden's anti-Theresa May punk poem

Salena Godden shares a blistering "punk rant" about why she'll never vote for Theresa May

In less than 24 hours the British people take to the ballot box to decide whether we want five more years of Tory rule, or a kinder, fairer society under Jeremy Corbyn's Labour. Tough choice, right? Over the last few weeks of debate, pop culture has been throwing its lot in to help you choose the most sensible path.

Just yesterday Cassetteboy released his latest hilarious mash-up video, which sees Prime Minister Theresa May showing her true colours to Diana Ross’s classic pop tune I’m Coming Out. British reggae and ska band Captain Ska, meanwhile, have been competing with Justin Bieber and DJ Khaled at the top of the UK’s official singles charts with their song Liar Liar GE2017, which has been viewed almost 2.5 million times on YouTube.

British poet, performer and author Salena Godden has joined the fray with I Will Not Vote For Mrs May, a blistering punk version of her poem Citizen Of Nowhere. Godden’s regular collaborator Peter Coyte provides the music.

“I will not vote for Mrs May / This hard and xenophobic way” reads the opening line, and the song goes on to lay into the Prime Minister for her cosying up to Donald Trump and her dreadful record of voting against rights to improve women’s lives.

Take a listen to the song in the player above, and as Godden says, “if you feel the same … please pass it on and share this punk rant!!”
