Kate Pollard @ Atticsalt

Article by Sophie George | 07 Aug 2009

If you can navigate your way through the rather complex and slightly threatening entry system to the exhibition, you'll find yourself in a makeshift attic space surrounded by photographs depicting the grieving process of the photographer's family following the death of her father.

I admire the honesty with which Kate Pollard has portrayed her family; however, as much as I tried, I simply didn't find them interesting. Yes, we can all identify with loss and I did feel a pang of emotion when confronted with the bereaved children gazing longingly at the empty driver's seat with no Dad to take control. It's sad and the family had strength, courage and grace to get through it; but I can't help but feel like I'm commenting on a soap opera rather than an art exhibition.

There was nothing that made me think 'Wow', nothing revolutionary, and quite honestly, nothing to make me go back. [Sophie George]
