If you're looking for art in Edinburgh, then surely there can be no better place to start than with an Edinburgh artist. Shown at City Art Centre alongside complementary contemporary artists Gillies, Mactaggart and Crozier to name a few, Redpath's work illuminates the walls with bright colours and striking compositions. The selection of work is varied and succinct, offering a digestible insight into Redpath's distinctive style; from vivid still lives such as 'The Indian Rug or Red Slippers', one of Redpath's most striking and famous pictures, to expressive landscapes of hot climes. The paintings are complemented with letters, photos and items belonging to the artist, adding to the impression of Redpath as a talented and characterful artist. In the centre of the gallery space is an 'activity area' catering to adults and children, inviting visitors to produce their own artworks using the materials provided. Full of pastels and papers, set-up still lives, felt-tips and sequins, this area should be a clincher for anyone with kids in tow, not that anyone should need persuading. Redpath's paintings capture the spirit of hot summers and happy holidays, and they are a pleasure to behold.
