Small Faces cast reunite for 20th anniversary screening at Glasgow Film Festival
Tongs ya bass! Glasgow Film Festival 2015 came to a close in style on 1 Mar with a cast and crew reunion for Small Faces – which screened on the final day of the festival, as part of GFF's Cinema City strand, to mark the Glasgow-set coming-of-age film's 20th anniversary.
Released in 1996 – just ahead of Trainspotting – Gillies Mackinnon's cult film follows a trio of brothers on the fringes of gang culture in 60s Glasgow, and helped launch the careers of a number of young Scottish actors including Joe McFadden, Kevin McKidd, Steven Duffy and Iain Robertson.
All four take part in the above Q&A at Glasgow Film Festival, along with Mackinnon and his brother Billy, who co-wrote the film.
When asked about where Small Faces stands in his career, McKidd said: “It was such a brilliant experience just working with these boys and actually feeling like your first film is a real film. At that time a lot of the British films felt a bit fluffy and a bit silly and a bit style-over-content. But even as young people we felt that this film actually meant something. It was vibrating on a different level to other films that were going on at the time.”
