Netflix gets its first Western series with Godless, the new project from the ever-surprising Steven Soderbergh. The seven episode series is based on the story of notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels). Set in the Wild West of the 1880s, Godless follows Griffin and his gang of outlaws, who are on a mission of revenge against Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell of Starred Up and '71), Griffin’s protégé who betrayed the brotherhood.

The show also follows Roy’s story. He’s to be found hiding out in a worn-down, isolated mining town, where he’s found refuge with a hardened widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery), who’s an outcast herself.

As well as Oceans and Logan Lucky director Soderbergh, the other creative force behind the show is Scott Frank, who has written and directed the series. Frank has form with the Western genre, having penned the much-loved Logan from earlier this year, which married the superhero movie with a Shane-like tale of redemption.

The ensemble cast also includes the likes of Merritt Wever (The Walking Dead), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones), Jeremy Bobb (The Knick), Scoot McNairy (Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy).
