What's On Scotland 24-31 Jul: TravFest & more
The Fringe (technically) kicks off this week, with a host of shows opening at Traverse Theatre as part of TravFest. Elsewhere, Intibint plays The Rum Shack and a new exhibition on medical innovation is at the V&A Dundee
It's still only July but, God help us, this is technically the first Fringe newsletter of the year, because previews start on Monday and there's no going back. Expect lots more in your inbox over the next month picking out our favourite shows of the obscenely huge programme, but for now, let's start things off with mini fest-within-a-fest, TravFest: Traverse Theatre's Fringe programme which kicks off, somehow, earlier than Monday, running from 25 July-24 August.
Traverse Theatre always has some of the best shows of the Fringe and this year looks to be no different, with plenty of smart, ambitious and experimental theatre on offer. We're especially excited by The Beautiful Future Is Coming, a speculative exploration of climate change told through three timelines; Lost Lear, a remix of Shakespeare's play told through the eyes of a person with dementia; and I'm Ready To Talk Now, an intimate one-on-one exploration of chronic illness. Check out the full programme and snap those cheap preview tickets quick.
