Independent Venue Week

Late January sees the return of Independent Venue Week, a stellar programme of gigs dedicated to the glory of the UK's homegrown haunts. The Food + Flea Market
New Street, Edinburgh, 21-27 Jan, 11.30am-7pm
The Pitt street food market was one of the year's great foodie success stories, and the team behind it launch their new venture this month. The Food and Flea Market on New Street will bring some of Edinburgh's best vendors to the city centre seven days a week – the launch line-up includes Pizza Geeks, fried chicken aces The Buffalo Food Truck and beef-or-crab specialists Barnacles & Bones. Flint & Pitch Revue #3
Bongo, Edinburgh, 20 Jan, 7pm
After hitting its stride in 2016, Flint & Pitch brings another buffet of poetry and music to Bongo this week. Co-host Jenny Lindsay is reunited with Rally & Broad pal Rachel McCrum; Ross Sutherland and Catherine Wilson showcase their poetic wares; and The Miss's / The Strange Blue Dreams bring the tunes.

Gruff Rhys: Set Fire to the Stars
Stereo, Glasgow, 26 Jan, 9pm
See to making your Thursday night glorious with the help of Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys as he pays a visit to Stereo as part of his Set Fire to the Stars tour. There’ll be a free screening of the Dylan Thomas-directed film, followed by a live performance of the soundtrack with Rhys and Niwl members Alun Tan Lan, Gruff Ab Arwel and Siôn Glyn.

Groove Cairngorm
