What's On Scotland 15-22 Mar: St Patrick's Day

It's St Patrick's Day on Saturday, which means most of you will probably be spending your weekend drinking Guinness and, evidently, listening to Boyzlife. Plus Hookworms, Apichatpong Weerasethakul All-Nighter, Hippodrome Silent Film Festival and more...

Yes, that is Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy you see in the image above and yes, they are currently touring under the wildly unoriginal band name Boyzlife (Boyzone + Westlife = Boyzlife, geddit?!), performing the hits of their respective bands. We know what you're thinking, all of your dreams have just come true at once. Well, try and contain your excitement when we tell you that they will be playing not one, but two dates across Scotland this weekend, in honour of good ol' St Paddy.

On St Patrick's Eve, the dynamic duo will perform at The Three Sisters in Edinburgh as part of St Patrick's Festival 2018, taking place across five participating Cowgate venues from 15-18 March. On St Patrick's Day, fellow Irish legends Jedward will also grace us with their presence at Espionage, where you can even get yourself a Jedward makeover – if that's something anyone's ever wanted.

In Glasgow, the boyz will be performing at Bongo's Bingo – a bizarre, incomprehensible event involving bingo, dance-offs and raving. Alternatively, you can spend your St Patrick's Day in a normal environment, like in the pub with your pals.

Open Mike Eagle
Stereo, Glasgow. 19 Mar, 7.30pm
Rapper, comedian and occasional pro-wrestling podcast host Open Mike Eagle released his fifth studio album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream last September, which featured on various 2017 Albums of the Year lists, including ours. The album was inspired by the demolition of Chicago’s Robert Taylor Homes, a notorious housing project on the south side of Chicago and offers everything you’d expect from an Open Mike Eagle album.

Hookworms
The Art School, Glasgow. 17 Mar, 7.30pm
It may only be March, but Leeds five-piece Hookworms have already dropped a strong contender for album of the year with their new album Microshift. The band take a step away from their scuzzy garage-rock roots and well into the world of psych-pop mastery, juxtaposing upbeat melodies with downbeat lyrics to produce a collection of songs that are equal parts emotive and euphoric. The Reckless Kettle Drag Party
The Reading Rooms, Dundee. 15 Mar, 10.30pm
Fergus Tibbs and Mikey Rodger describe their Reckless Kettle nights as 'parties for freaks', and that’s something we can entirely get on board with. This month, they’re bringing us The Reckless Kettle Drag Party and there’s even a prize for best dressed, so you might want to revisit a bit of RuPaul in the days prior for some outfit inspo. Promise, an aspiring actress, is chosen to participate and what unfolds forces Nicoll to question what he knew about life and art. Image: Peter Dibdin

The Delightful Sausage
McPhabbs, Glasgow. 16 Mar, 8pm
Comedy duo Chris Cantrill and Amy Gledhill, aka The Delightful Sausage, turned heads with their debut Edinburgh Fringe show Cold Hard Cache last year. Hippodrome Silent Film Festival
Hippodrome, Bo’ness. 21-25 Mar
The Hippodrome Silent Film Festival will open this year with a screening of The Last of the Mohicans (pictured).
