What's On Scotland 13-19 Aug: Edinburgh International Film Festival & more

Another week, another festival and this time, it's cinema's turn. The Edinburgh International Film Festival returns this week, running in cinemas across the city from 13-19 August. Our film editor Jamie has written about the top 10 films he's looking forward to, including Molly Manners' kooky coming-of-age tale Extra Geography, Victorian found footage horror Snapshot, and a retrospective screening of The Rock (yes, that one).

There's also the opening film with Domnhall Gleeson, New Queer Cinema legend Gregg Araki's latest I Want Your Sex, and a new super low budget film from previous Sean Connery Award winner Abdolreza Kahani, called Empty Heaven. Browse the full programme here.

Nude Parade (WIP)

The duo behind Creepy Boys and SLUGS return with a work in progress inspired by everyone’s favourite hospital-themed board game Operation. Incorporating live-feed video, trash puppets and ‘interactive surgery’, Nude Parade continues the pair’s fascination with bodies and identity. Image: Mat Simpson.

Made in Scotland Gigs

It’s the yearly showcase of Scottish musical talent during the festivals, presented by Wide Days. It’s the perfect chance to get a snapshot of the cutting edge of Scotland’s music scene, including the likes of Azamiah, Bikini Body, and Dara Dubh. Image: Debbie Murray.

Oedipus & The Mama's Boys

Sometimes you come across a band name so perfect, it almost doesn’t matter what their music sounds like. Good thing, though, that Oedipus & The Mama’s Boys deliver on that front too: post-punk, noise rock, grunge and new wave that translate into a euphoric live performance. Image: Beau Wolton.

Late 'n' Live

The original late-night show returns with stellar line-ups of your favourite acts from the festival, hosted by the best MCs in the country, every single night of the Fringe.
