Rick Redbeard
The Phantom Band frontman presents a set of solo material, following the release of his second solo album Awake Unto last month. 4 Jul, The Hug and Pint, £10

The Telescopes
The Staffordshire veterans bring their complex (and at-times bruising) sound to the Hug and Pint, blending elements of drone, noise rock and psych into one glorious whole. Read our four-star review of their 2015 LP Hidden Fields9 Jul, The Hug and Pint, £10

The Fall
Mark E Smith’s seminal post-punk outfit return to Glasgow, hot on the heels of their 30th studio album last year. Smith's backing band could be anything from four 20-year-olds looking nervously over their shoulders, to avant-garde dancer Michael Clark waving a chair, so definitely worth checking out. Òran Mór, 30 Jul, £25

Doune the Rabbit Hole
The festival returns to its home near Stirling with an exciting line-up of some of the best indie and DIY artists from across Scotland and beyond. Cate Le Bon and Admiral Fallow headline, while C Duncan, Richard Dawson, Rozi Plain and Emma Pollock all feature across the weekend. Cardross Estate, 19-21 Aug, day tickets from £38, weekend £88

Silver Apples
Pioneers of machine music and avant-garde electronica, Silver Apples present their experimental minimalist sounds in the intimate surroundings of the Hug and Pint. 26 Aug, £14
