Bank holiday weekends are always a Godsend, but with Easter giving us Friday and Monday off work, we've got even more spare time to play with.

Here's our pick of the best things to do in Liverpool:

Food and Drink

Liverpool Food, Drink and Lifestyle Spring Festival

No doubt the one everyone's most excited about is the Liverpool Food, Drink and Lifestyle Spring Festival, taking over Sefton Park across the bank holiday weekend to welcome the spring in with artisanal and regional food, independent street food traders, a pop-up restaurant, Prosecco and craft beer bars, live music, DJs, activities like lantern making and mono printing and much more. Sat 15-Sun 16 Apr, Sefton Park, 10.30am, £6-£12

Partying

Camp and Furnace

This Easter everyone’s favourite bingo-meets-clubbing night Bongo’s Bingo is throwing not one, not two, not three, but FOUR parties, for a bank holiday weekend of bingo, raving, prizes and dance-offs. Thu 13, Sat 15, Sun 16 and Mon 17 Apr, Camp and Furnace, 6pm, £15

Unleash your inner 80s kid with a spring break special of Prom, the retro party at Camp and Furnace. Here you can expect 80s fancy dress, spring cocktails, a limbo contest, a kissing corner, buffet and punch and even a prom king and queen. Sat 15 Apr, Camp and Furnace, 7pm, £7-£10

Music

Embrace the liberating feeling of the bank holiday with an evening of good-spirited nostalgia with Liverpool trio Good Mixer's Bank Holiday Britpop Bonanza. It'll be an evening of 90s classics and alternative gems, with everything from Bluetones, Supergrass, Charlatans, Kula Shaker, Dodgy and Shed 7 to Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Pulp, Inspiral Carpets, Primal Scream, Menswear, Blur and Oasis. Thu 13 Apr, Sound Food and Drink, 8pm

Speaking of Britpoppers, local legends Cast will also be throwing a special one-off album launch gig to celebrate Pledge Music-funded sixth studio album, Kicking Up the Dust, released later this month. Sun 16 Apr, Arts Club, £20.50

Aaaand because it's not all about Britpop or 90s throwbacks, p'raps head down to EBGBs for a co-headline spring tour from Welsh hard rockers HARK and Canterbury's OHHMs. Fri 14 Apr, EBGBs, 7.30pm, £8-£10

Families

Of course it can’t be Easter without a good, old-fashioned Easter egg hunt, and Cadbury’s will be hosting several across the region at Speke Hall, Dunham Massey, Formby, Rufford Old Hall and The Hardmans’ House. Various dates, times and locations, £2

Liverpool Museums will be hosting a variety of free craft activities for families throughout the Easter period, including Easter-inspired activities at Walker Art Gallery and more. Click here to see what's on across the venues. Various dates, times and locations, free

This Easter, Tate Liverpool invite families to stop by for Imaginative Worlds, where you can make playful puppet characters, masks and other theatrical props, before getting into costume and taking to the stage to perform your creations – all inspired by O.K. The Musical, a working set exploring and restaging the entire history and folklore of Kinderhook, New York State. Tue 11-Thu 13 Apr & Mon 17-Tue 18 Apr, Tate Liverpool, 1.30pm, free

Comedy

Patrick Monahan

Bank holidays are all about the free and easy good times, so peak on Saturday with the Liverpool Comedy Club, which welcomes Gary Delaney and Patrick Monahan, with compere Brendan Riley. Sat 15 Apr, Camp and Furnace, 7.30pm, £13.50
