T Break Stage Line-Up Announced

Feature by Jamie Stuttard | 12 Jun 2008

Last month a series of eight gigs between Edinburgh's Liquid Room and King Tut's in Glasgow hosted performances by 48 of the best unsigned bands in Scotland. The prize for the best 16? The chance to play at the T-Break stage at this year’s festival.

The winners have now been announced and will follow in the footsteps of local success stories such as Biffy Clyro, Attic Lights and Snow Patrol in making their debut festival performances on the stage.

Amongst the winners, the future looks bright for Come On Gang!, who started making waves when they won the Cabaret Voltaire unsigned competition we ran at the start of the year. Forming in Edinburgh just one year ago, singer Sarah Tanat-Jones’ tight, melodic and often Celtic-sounding vocals add a distinctive factor. Equally impressive are Isosceles (interviewed here); an oddball pop band who stand neatly in line with The Maccabees and Foals. Their spelling-bee track I.S.O.S.C.E.L.E.S is bound to please when they hit Balado.

Also on the bill, Joe Acheson Quartet have been quietly amassing a reputation around Edinburgh as one of the city's best new live acts; The Fire and I are an epic sounding two-piece, and We See Lights describe their sound as ‘the bastard child of modern Americana and traditional Scottish music whose babysitter is Brian Wilson of a good day.’ Sound mental? See them for yourself.

The full line-up for the T-Break stage is as follows:

Be A Familiar
Come On Gang!
Departures
Ex Wives
Haight-Ashbury
