T-Break 2011: Final 16 Announced

Feature by Bob Morton | 13 May 2011

Following a call for submissions in March, today sees the announcement of the 16 bands picked from a thousand to play this year's T Break stage lineup, providing a diverse shapshot of the contemporary scene in Scotland.

The acts selected by a panel of 13 industry judges (our own music editor included) run the gamut from the energised realms of leftfield rap and experimental rock through to the kind of upbeat indie guitar pop and soulful folk that has become part of the landscape's tapestry in recent times.

Rounding out the bill alongside bands featured in these pages such as Cancel the Astronauts, CHURCH OF WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN, Conquering Animal Sound, Lady North, Otherpeople and United Fruit are Aerials Up, Boycotts, Carnivores, CRAYONS, Discopolis, Fatherson, The Lafontaines, Marrik Layden Deft With Scatabrainz, PAWS, Reverieme.

George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship at Tennent’s Lager, said of this year's T Break initiative: “The competition this year has been outstanding and really reflects what’s going on in Scotland’s grassroots music scene. Yet again we’re so proud to be supporting these new artists by giving them such a great platform to perform and boost their music careers, sharing a bill with some of the best homegrown and international headliners on the planet.”

Let us know what you make of this year's selections in the comments.
