Radio Magnetic Turns 8

Feature by Katy Hutcheson | 04 Mar 2009

Originally started as a pirate underground radio station eight years ago, playing alternative tunes on demand, Radio Magnetic has progressed to the mainstream over the years but still keeps its roots firmly in the underground. Founders of the station are keen to keep the music varied but hold on strong to their ethos of promoting Scottish music.

The latest addition to the team is Jim Gellatly, formerly of XFM who joins former Mary Anne Hobbs producer Rob Booth at the station.

March and April will see Radio Magnetic throwing club and live music nights to celebrate their birthday. On 20 March the Radio Magnetic Soundsystem party will be happening at Pivo Pivo in Glasgow. Then get yourself down to Kinky Afro on 27 March where they'll be throwing a Radio Magnetic special and launching a download album specific to the station's output.

Radio Magnetic are also planning to relaunch the station under parent company Inner Ear Ltd, promising more access to interviews, DJ mixes and online music sessions here.
