Irvine Welsh and Kristin Hersh to Guest DJ at Born to Be Wide Tomorrow (Thu, 21 Aug)
Edinburgh's Born To Be Wide is to host a festival special on Thursday (21 Aug), with all guest DJs taking the form of Fringe festival participants. In something of a coup for the Scottish music scene social, enigmatic alternative rock queen Kristin Hersh and local literary hero Irvine Welsh are set to spin a selection of their favourite tunes.
And instead of the usual seminar that BTBW has established in recent months, the night kicks off with Matthew Priest (Dodgy) and Maurice Bacon (The Love Affair) performing a taster of their Two Drummers Drumming Fringe show.
“This is an amazing line up and is the first time we have had a bill consisting entirely of guests connected to the Edinburgh festivals,” says Born To Be Wide co-organiser, Olaf Furniss.
Born To Be Wide is free and takes place at The Voodoo Rooms (Speakeasy Room), 19a West Register Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2AA.
The running order of events is as follows:
9.15 – Two Drummers Drumming Preview
10pm-2am – Guest DJs: Kristin Hersh, Matthew Priest, Maurice Bacon, Irvine Welsh and Keith Smith (The Edge Festival).
Irvine Welsh will be reading from his latest novel, Crime, at the Edinburgh Book Festival, at 6.30pm before BTBW.
Former Throwing Muses singer, Kristin Hersh’s one-woman show takes place at St Cecilia’s Hall at 7pm until August 23, as part of The Edge Festival.
Priest and Bacon's Two Drummers Drumming show is on every day at the Bongo Club at 4.30pm, up to and including August 24.
