Fruit Tree Foundation announce mentoring scheme for unsigned singer-songwriters

Exclusively to The Skinny, Idlewild's <strong>Rod Jones</strong> announces the <strong>Fruit Tree Foundation</strong>'s new mentoring programme

Feature by Rod Jones | 04 Jul 2011

Fresh from the success of First Edition, the Fruit Tree Foundation's first album, we are "sprouting a new branch" to our organisation and looking for singer-songwriters aged 16 and over (nobody is too old!) to take part in a mentoring program.

Successful applicants will be paired with an established mentor of our choosing (so far including members of Frightened Rabbit, Idlewild, Sparrow and the Workshop, Teenage Fanclub, John McCusker and many more) for a day of collaboration and pre-production plus a day recording two songs in a professional studio, followed by a performance in Edinburgh with their mentor. The songs recorded will be hosted and publicised here on The Skinny's website.

This will eventually be a year round project with one pairing of songwriters a month; to start off we are looking for songwriters to participate in our initial run of three sessions over the summer, in time for our full launch at this year's Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival taking place in October.

Applicants will need to be relatively flexible with their time to fit with our busy mentors and must be free on 20/21 October for the live performance of their finished songs.

To apply please email two to three demos of your proposed song ideas in mp3 format (they can be recorded on a phone or tape even!) to: rodjonesmusic@gmail.com by Monday, 11 July at 5pm.

Watch this space for announcements about the next run in the coming weeks.
