RSNO launches a new scheme to help those on a budget enjoy classical music.

Feature by Dave Hynes | 15 Oct 2008

Ever fancied doing something a bit more highbrow with your evenings? The Royal Scottish National Orchestra has announced a new scheme which encourages young folk to attend classical concerts through the launch of the RSNO £5 Saver Deal.

The 2008/2009 orchestral season - which takes place at venues all over Scotland - has just harmoniously kicked off and winds up in May of next year. So if you are under 26, a full time student or unwaged, you can take advantage of this substantial discount. The forthcoming season 'dives into the ocean', aiming to explore a selection of tuneful evocations of the mysterious and ever-changing sea, including aquatic musical pictures by Wagner, Debussy, Mendelssohn and Ravel.

The season also covers a pastoral theme, breathing fresh air into famous works such as Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, and a renowned trio of international singers performing the much- anticipated The Damnation of Faust.

Whether you want to impress the more discerning date, take in some ‘high’ culture for a change, expand your musical horizons beyond the new Ludacris LP or just sit back and enjoy some dazzling virtuoso performances - anyway you look at it it's a pretty good deal. To be eligible for the discount proof of status is required; the conditions of which, as well as the full 2008/09 season brochure are available here.
