Debut Line-Up Announced For The Edge

Mixed bag as The Edge Festival announces it's inaugural line-up

Life after Tennents begins this August for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as The Edge steps, for the first time, out of the not inconsiderable shadow of T On The Fringe. Details have been announced today of the inaugural line-up for The Edge, and by all accounts, it’s a mixed bag.

Fifty shows have been confirmed across the usual three venues (Cabaret Voltaire, The Liquid Room and The Corn Exchange, with a residency in St Cecilia’s Church thrown in for measure) and whilst the Festival may have been rebranded, the line-up suggests its very much business as usual.

The vast expanse of the Corn Exchange pays host to chart botherers Scouting For Girls and Lostprophets, Britpop also-rans Shed Seven and Geordie post punkers Maximo Park, who seem to be the pick of a rather sketchy bunch.

Local Bohos Broken Records have their chance on the big stage with a mid-month slot at The Liquid Room. They’ll be joined by Mercury Prize winner Dizzee Rascal, Michael Franti and Digitalism.

For consistency, though, it’s the line-up at Cabaret Voltaire that really stands out, with Swedish power poppers The Shout Out Louds, Aussie pair The Presets and The Midnight Juggernauts, former Josef K frontman Paul Haig and up and coming Glasgow upstarts Isosceles looking to be the highlights.

The line-up announced so far is below.
