Chinese Music at Midsummer

Acclaimed as 'Scotland's strangest band' experimental pop band FOUND are living up to expectations by involving themselves in Chinese Music at Midsummer, a free promenade performance which hopes to bring together elements of an ongoing exhibition (Dialogues of Wind and Bamboo) in a single evening's performance. Improvising alongside a range of Asian music acts such as The Shanghai Jazz Project, FOUND will interact with the exhibition's installations to examine links between nature, man and machine.

A box-like sculpture of 600 black bamboo shoots on the Lower Birch Lawn will become an exotic stage for dancers and musicians in Natural Progression by artist Susie Brown. And if that isn't enough bamboo to convince you, Ziggy Campbell and Simon Kirby will be breathing life into robotics by placing Chinese traditional instruments into the 'hands' of a robotic, bamboo-fingered leading man. This event not only boasts traditional and harmonic Eastern sounds within grounds densely populated with colorful plants, but also promises 'surprises' along the way, planning to bring the Botanic Gardens back to a new 'modern reality' by the end of its musical journey.

Sat 21 Jun, 7:00pm — 9:00pm (meet at 6:45pm outside Temperate Palmhouse), free

No booking is required, however spaces for the Temperate Palmhouse performances are limited. If you want to guarantee a place, you can collect tickets in advance from the North Gate.
