Born To Be Wide Presents: 'How to Get A Gig' @ The Voodoo Rooms, 2 Oct

Feature by Dave Kerr | 02 Oct 2008

Born To Be Wide - the Edinburgh based Scottish music scene social - tonight (2 Oct) hosts a panel discussion amongst gig bookers hailing from all over the country, dubbed 'How To Get A Gig'.

Participating in the seminar will be Solen Collet (Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh), Tam Coyle (Barfly, Glasgow), Jonathan Dawson (The Doghouse, Dundee) and David Lawson (Henry’s Cellar Bar and The Ark, Edinburgh), as well as Andy Richardson (Black Spring Records), co-promoter of Limbo at the Voodoo Rooms.

“All these bookers/promoters are connected to well-established venues, which should be a first port of call for unsigned or emerging artists,” says Born To Be Wide co-organiser, Olaf Furniss. “The seminar will also be useful for bands looking to play outside their own city, as well as anybody thinking of organising their own gigs.”

Following the discussion, participants will field questions from the floor before playing a set consisting of their favourite records, with the only stipulation being that otherwise revered miserablists The Smiths/Morrissey and Joy Division are barred. Will any of the guest DJs be tempted to break the golden rule when they step up to man (or woman) the mixing console? Find out tonight at 7.30pm when it all kicks off in the Voodoo Rooms Speakeasy.

Attendance is free, but anybody wishing to attend the seminar is asked to email their name to borntobe_wide@yahoo.com in advance to book a seat.
