The Two Faces of Mitchell & Webb @ The Kings Theatre, Glasgow

men of many faces - most of them funny

Feature by Yasmin Ali | 12 Dec 2006

Mitchell & Webb's eponymous sketch show is the latest to follow the trajectory from BBC Radio 4 airplay to BBC2 television series, through to repackaging as a popular UK theatre tour. Notwithstanding the notable absence of fellow comedienne Olivia Colman, the reformatting does not disappoint.

Among their funniest sketches include their satirical treatment of TV in general, and the downshifting from the little screen to the big stage sees all the costume changes and sound checks that go with the territory, played up to comedic effect.

Skillful lighting engineering and projections ease the transition between sketches, with quips from the secondary cast in interludes during Mitchell & Webb's often arduous costume changes. Space cadets, Nazi Officers, alcoholic Snooker commentators - Mitchell & Webb are men of many faces. Sound advice is to invest in a good anti-wrinkle cream, as Two Faces... leaves most of the audience grinning from ear-to-ear. [Yasmin Ali]
