Club Paradox

Feels like a night at Blaze, except for the fire-juggler doing card tricks

Club Paradox is a new club night that seems to be struggling to find its niche. The website suggests a fetish night aimed towards gay men. The flyer says nothing of the sort. And so there is a very mixed crowd: some older men (some in leather), some younger (mid-20s), and a handful of lesbians. For some reason, all the men are upstairs and all the women are downstairs. I think Paradox is going for a faux-kinky theme, but it's hard to tell - Club Bit-Of-A-Muddle might have been a more appropriate title. There is a standard dance set (Underworld, Faithless), while in one of the smaller caves a man juggles with fire, then a brief slave auction, then everyone gathers in the main dance area and it starts to feel like a night at Blaze - except that the fire-juggler is now doing card tricks. Paradox has potential, though, particularly if there's a bigger turnout for the next event. [Cate Simpson]
