Tom Ford shaved eyebrow off

Tom Ford once shaved his eyebrow off because he was high on drugs.

The fashion designer and his first boyfriend were experimenting with hallucinogenic drug mescaline in the 80s when Tom was overcome by the desire to copy a character in his favourite book and shave one brow.

“In the book, A Single Man, the main character George talks about shaving off his eyebrow after taking some mescaline,” Tom revealed to The Advocate magazine. “That happened to my boyfriend Ian and me on a trip. One night Ian and I took some mescaline to go to Studio One, and I ended up shaving my own eyebrow off!”

Tom – now 48 years old - recently directed a film adaptation of A Single Man. Although it has been nearly 30 years since he first read the book by Christopher Isherwood, the story still moves him.

“I’ve always had a thing for older, smart guys,” he said. “I was in awe of Christopher and became a bit obsessed with him, really. When I picked up the book again in my 40s it affected me on a much deeper level.”
