Nichole Richie has pneumonia

TV star Nichole Richie was taken to a Los Angeles hospital yesterday where she is currently receiving treatment for pneumonia.

Her representative confirmed: "Nicole has checked into Cedars-Sinai where she is being treated. She is doing well."

Nicole was granted a restraining order against two paparazzi in court on Monday, and while testifying she admitted she was feeling ill. She has also written about being unwell on her Twitter page.

The 28-year-old star began feeling poorly as early as November 9, but initially thought she was just suffering from a cold. She began to worry it might be something more serious when she struggled to look after her two children with partner Joel Madden, 22-month-old daughter Harlow and son Sparrow, two months.

"Nicole began feeling sick, and has pretty much been in bed. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but she was exhausted and couldn't take care of Harlow and Sparrow the way she normally does," a source told the FOX411 blog. "Nicole spent most days in bed, and the kids were brought in to her, since she was feeling so icky.

"Nicole has been working very hard since giving birth to Sparrow. She really is a stay-at-home mom with the kids all day long and then she goes to work on her House of Harlow line. It has been a lot for her right after giving birth."

Joel was in Australia touring with his band Good Charlotte when Nicole first fell ill. He returned to Los Angeles at the weekend, and immediately realised how ill she was. "When he got back he was worried and realised she didn't have just a little flu bug," the source said.
