Kate Moss loves "second-hand" clothes

Kate Moss used to dress in “second-hand” clothes.

The supermodel is thrilled with the current trend for vintage clothes as it is the way she has been dressing for years. She picked up her first bargain when she was 15, but admits buying pre-owned clothes was a necessity rather than a choice at that time.

“I couldn’t really afford designer clothes when I was young, so I just went to second-hand shops,” she explained. “It wasn’t called vintage then, it was called ‘second-hand’ when I was 15.”

Kate’s most treasured wardrobe items are Madame Gres dresses and lame gowns.

Kate is currently promoting her new perfume Vintage, which is inspired by the current trends for clothes from different ages. The 35-year-old star has taken a huge role in developing the new scent. She is keen to turn her hand to business ventures, and already has her own clothing line with Topshop as well as perfumes and a haircare range.

“I want to know what goes on behind the scenes, as well, and how to be successful at that part of the industry,” she told WWD during an interview at London’s Claridge’s hotel. “Working on the creative process is really interesting for me because I do know what I like, so it’s fun for me to realise that it becomes part of you.”

Kate is currently considering creating her own make-up range. She thinks her modelling background means she is perfectly placed to produce cosmetics, adding she has probably spent at least six years sitting in chairs while make-up artists apply her face. “I’ve been modelling for 20 years,” she said. “Somebody can do my makeup; I don’t even have to look in a mirror to know what it looks like because I just know by what it feels like on my face.”
