Janet Jackson has confirmed she has split from Jermaine Dupri.

Shortly after Janet’s brother Michael Jackson died in June it was reported the pair, who were together for seven years, had parted ways to give Janet time to grieve. They were then said to have reunited, with reports even suggesting they were planning a wedding in the New Year.

However, Janet has now spoken about the split, insisting they are still apart but remain good friends. “I'm not the type of girl that stays in touch with your ex like that,” she said in a radio interview with Atlanta’s Q100. “But Jermaine is one of my best friends. I love, love, love him to death. We're still connected. We're still good friends. We still talk.”

Janet also spoke about the effect Michael’s passing has had on the rest of her life. The 50-year-old pop icon died of acute Propofol intoxication on June 25.

Janet, 43, insists his death has made her realise how “strong” she is, adding she thinks she gets her mental toughness from her mother Katherine Jackson. She also said stories speculating about Michael’s death have been hurtful, but she is learning how to deal with them.

Janet explained: “It's just crazy. There was a rumour one of my nieces is actually my daughter - why wouldn't we look alike? We're related. I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was.”
