Ellen DeGeneres says Portia de Rossi will be with her until the “day she dies”.

The talk show host, who married Portia in 2008, is confident their relationship will stand the test of time because they are perfectly suited.

"I have that sense of, 'I'm done now. I'm settled.’ I know that part of my life is taken care of,” Ellen said in O: The Oprah Magazine. “I've got love. I've got someone who will be with me till the day I die.”

The 51-year-old comic star has been dating the 36-year-old actress since 2004 and Ellen is more in love with the stunning blonde than ever. She gushed: "Portia is so beautiful and so smart and so funny. We are perfect for each other."

The pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their home in August 2008 – and although gay marriages were banned in California later that year, their union was deemed legal because it took place before the ruling was passed.

Ellen has also spoken out about her new TV role – as a judge on talent show American Idol. Although she was a surprise replacement for Paula Abdul, Ellen insists she has adapted quickly and has bonded with fellow judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi. "They came to me, and it was a total surprise," she explained. "I like to try new things because I get bored so easily. And I like the show, so I thought it was a great idea."
