DJ AM’s estate is suing several aviation companies for the star’s “wrongful death”.

The musician – real name Adam Goldstein – sustained serious injuries in a plane crash in South Carolina in September 2008. He recovered fully from his injuries, only to die of an accidental drug overdose in August this year.

Goldstein’s death was ruled accidental by the LA County Coroner, but his mother Andrea Gross has filed a $20 million civil law suit claiming the plane crash was “responsible” for his death.

Her papers – filed yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court - extend a negligence and breach of contract lawsuit Goldstein filed before his death.

Her amendment reads: “The crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death at a later date.”

Gross’ complaint names several defendants, including Learjet Inc., Clay Lacy Aviation and the estates of the pilots who were flying the plane.

The companies have yet to comment on the new allegations, but a number of lawsuits have been filed in opposition to the case.

Learjet has previously denied all responsibility for the crash, which also injured Blink 182 star Travis Barker.

Goldstein died in New York of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and cocaine. He was 26 years old. His friends and family blame the crash for causing him to relapse into substance abuse.

The case will go before a court on March 2, 2010.
