Claire Danes says working with Ricky Gervais was “the best day of her life”.

The 30-year-old actress appeared alongside the British comic star in 2007 movie Stardust, which also starred Robert De Niro. Claire had to film a scene with both men, and admits she was daunted by the experience.

She said: “I was crazy that day, I was so absurdly excited. That was one of the best days of my life. I had a scene with Ricky Gervais and Robert De Nero. What an amazing combination of people! But I still didn’t get into Ricky’s TV show Extras. I tried, I made a little pitch but he wasn’t biting. He featured lots of other stars but not me.”

Claire stars in new movie Me And Orson Welles alongside Zac Efron, who is best known for appearing in the High School Musical film franchise. She admits the experience reminded her of appearing in Romeo and Juliet alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, as the two men have so many female fans.

She said on UK daytime TV show This Morning: “I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some of the dreamiest leading men around. I‘ve been spoiled. It’s tough going. Leo didn’t elicit the level of hysteria that Zac is now. It’s pretty amazing. He’s very worthy of that adulation though, he’s gorgeous, charismatic and I think a very fine actor.

“It’s a little bit more sophisticated than what’s he’s taken on previously. He’s very gifted and also brave to do more adult material. I’m impressed by him.”
