Jon Bon Jovi has revealed that he sings because he wants to be "immortal".

The 47-year-old rocker doesn't care about being famous or rich - he just wants to live forever, and thinks his music will help him achieve eternal life. With bandmates Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres, Jon has been working towards his goal for 26 years.

"The need to be better than I was yesterday keeps me going after all these years," the star said. "I don't do this for the money, or the fame, or the glory. I do it because when you write a song, it's the closest thing to immortality that you are ever going to taste, and when it goes to the public, it is magic."

Bon Jovi performed their comeback song We Weren't Born To Follow on The X Factor last week. Most acts are thrilled to appear on the popular programme, but Jon admits he is "not interested" in reality shows because he doesn't think he would have "made it" on TV when he was young.

"Performing on the show was fine," he told the Telegraph newspaper. "I have no vested interest in the contestants and didn't know who they were. I wouldn't have made it on that show. The pressure is unbelievable. Success wasn't measured back then as it is now. It took us three albums to make it big and I don't think they would have let that happen now."
