Beyonce Knowles feels “afraid” when success comes too easily.

The singing sensation has been building her career since the late 90s and revealed her mother and father prepared her to sacrifice everything for chart glory.

She said: “My parents always taught me, ‘If you want something you have to work for it.’ Actually if something comes too easily to me I get a little afraid because in my life I have worked so hard for everything. I am very happy to work at everything because some celebrities get the best of the best and it goes bad. It has taken everything I have to get to where I am so I think twice before I do something that would be detrimental to what I have built.”

Beyonce shot to fame as a teenager alongside Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in hit girl group Destiny’s Child and is glad she had friends around her when her father Matthew Knowles decided to quit his job and prepare her for the music business. “My parents never forced me to perform or sing,” she insists. “Now that I look back I can’t believe my dad gave up his job for me. That is really crazy when I think about it. They always supported me, it’s amazing.

“My dad was a fan of Motown and he created a boot camp, lots of vocal lessons. But more importantly we were really good friends and it was so much fun.”

The 28-year-old star accepts working so closely with her father has sometimes proved difficult – particularly when she became an adult and decided she wanted more control over her career.

She explained: “When we started I was a baby and now I am a woman. The transition was difficult – I am still my father’s baby girl. It was hard when I turned 21. I am a strong businesswoman and when it comes to my shows I am very much in control. It is something we still struggle with at times, but it is comforting to know there is someone there for me.”
