The Wombats - Kill the Director

This second single from the Liverpudlian pretenders is a tiresome noise

Single Review by Nick Mitchell | 10 Jul 2007
Single title: Kill the Director
Artist: The Wombats
Label: 14th Floor
The Wombats are a band who don't take themselves too seriously. The name, the MySpace 'about us' blurb and the sideways lyrical glances to Eastenders and Bridget Jones all testify to this. Their sense of fun has attracted gushing praise from all the reliable-as-taxes arbiters of stoodent-indie cool - from the NME to the excitable-by-anything-new types at Radio One. But really, what's wrong with taking yourself seriously as musicians? Because this second single from the Liverpudlian pretenders is a tiresome noise. Sure, some of the lyrics are a teeny bit witty, but The Wombats will have outstayed their welcome in a matter of months, not years. [Nick Mitchell]
Release Date: 25 June.
The Wombats play The Garage, Glasgow on 18 Sept. http://www.thewombats.co.uk/
