The Wildhearts - The New Flesh

Catchy in the same way as one might regard syphilis

Single Review by Jamie Borthwick | 08 Oct 2007
Single title: The New Flesh
Artist: The Wildhearts
Label: Round
Supposedly a departure from the criticised 'poppy' feel of their previous release, The New Flesh is the second single from The Wildhearts' new eponymous album. So radio friendly, it could almost have been penned by Radio 1's afternoon schedulers, the song deftly ducks and weaves to avoid any suggestion of original thought and the gratingly repeated chorus "we are, we are, we are the new flesh" is catchy in the same way as one might regard syphilis. A timely reminder to rock bands out there that one distortion pedal does not a 'heavy riff' make. Ginger knows this. [Jamie Borthwick]
