The Like - What I Say and What I Mean

begging for a more satisfying conclusion

Single Review by Dave Winter | 16 May 2006
Single title: What I Say and What I Mean
Artist: The Like
Label: Geffen
Right from the get-go, The Like rocks us through a wormhole back to the days of plaid shirts, jean shorts, military boots and bandana-wearing grunge rockers. Placing a modern edge on this era of rock leads to a catchy, upbeat, crunching hook. After hearing what they say and trying to comprehend what they mean, it does seem evident that the Like are indeed, well, likeable. However, the tune does seem to move along a bit too fast for its own good, begging for a more satisfying conclusion. Perhaps if these California girls could have focused a little more on exploring the soundscapes they create, this track could in turn be more than just a quick radio-ready rocker. [Dave Winter]
This single is out on May 15.
