The Knockouts - D-Zug/El Problemo

Until the art of variety is mastered The Knockouts will never reach the eye of the storm.

Single Review by Billy Hamilton | 16 May 2006
Single title: D-Zug/El Problemo
Artist: The Knockouts
Label: Toppler
With all the subtlety of a corybantic cyclone The Knockouts produce a tidal wave of vitriolic instrumentation on their second 7" release. Bereft of bass or vocals, D-Zug is a ravenous sprawl of organ loops and thrashing guitars, pounded by relentlessly charged drumming. The brutal rock 'n' roll continues in the swaggering savagery of El Problemo. Furiously minimal, it burns with the copious energy of its predecessor without the contagious bewilderment of the Hammond organ. High octane punk it may be but until the art of variety is mastered The Knockouts will never reach the eye of the storm. [Billy Hamilton]
