The Automatic - Recover

A shallow, tuneless void of a song

Single Review by Nick Mitchell | 13 Oct 2006

With their last single, the ubiquitous Monster, The Automatic achieved little else aside from demonstrating just how mainstream 'indie' music has become. Anyone with half an ounce of good taste will no doubt be whispering under their breath as they read this, 'one hit wonder, one hit wonder…'. Thankfully, the prayers have been answered. Recover is a shallow, tuneless void of a song, a hideous hotchpotch of new-wave beats and post-punk angst, as if the poor Welsh lads couldn't decide which currently-bankable trend to rip off and opted for both. At least Busted kept their facile pseudo-rock tongue-in-cheek. [Nick Mitchell]
