St Jude's Infirmary - Goodbye Jack Vettriano / Vvvvampyre

takes hold of you as though you are being swept up in the gentle but ominous power of the sea

Single title: Goodbye Jack Vettriano / Vvvvampyre
Artist: St Jude's Infirmary
Label: SL Records
Scottish indie hopefuls St Jude's Infirmary release this, their second single and a double A-side at that. Goodbye Jack Vettriano is a strikingly beautiful arrangement which takes hold of you as though you are being swept up in the gentle but ominous power of the sea; buoyed up in the waves but unable to struggle free from a powerful grasp. By contrast Vvvvampyre is a half-baked distortion laden anthem. It falls well short of the level set by its companion and ought to have been relegated to B status, despite it possessing a certain rough edged charm. [Dave Reid]
