Secret Machines - Lightning Blue Eyes

Like a heavyweight boxer, the Secret Machines have us just where they want us

Single Review by Jon Seller | 16 Apr 2006
Single title: Lightning Blue Eyes
Artist: Secret Machines

Like a heavyweight boxer, the Secret Machines have us just where they want us. Slowly jabbing at our musical consciousness with their debut EP 'September 000' and first album Now Here is Nowhere, they've chosen 2006 as the round to up the assault. With awesome second album, Ten Silver Drops on its way, they released the epic Alone, Jealous and Stoned as a softener, a lever, forcing us to drop our defences and succumb to the inevitable. And here it is - three minutes of rich, musically ambitious verse complimented with the most addictive chorus you'll hear in an age. Let down by cruel editing (the album version is close to perfection), this big-hitter still has more than its fair share of killer harmonies, keyboard and trademark mesmerising drum action. There'll be no getting up from this one; you can see it in their eyes. [Jon Seller]

Secret Machines play The Liquid Room, Edinburgh on March 28.
