Reverend & The Makers - Silence is Talking
After a summer supporting Oasis, John McClure and his Makers return with Silence Is Talking, which, if you can forgive the lack of originality and a shameless lust for baggy days of old, is actually a bit of a tune. A solid but groovy bass line probes throughout, while the drumbeat tries desperately to out-Reni Reni himself as a euphoric horn section adds a little Motown to the occasion. And then of course, we have the Reverend himself, and it’s not hard to see who and what he is preaching against this time when he sings, 'The political official might have fiddled it a little/ fortunately nobody knows'. Quite possibly the funkiest take on the expenses scandal yet.
Reverend & The Makers play ABC, Glasgow on 16 Jul and Picture House, Edinburgh on 30 Oct.
