Revere - Learning To Breathe

Comparisons to contemporaries come all too easy here.

Single Review by Suzanne Mitchell | 13 Oct 2006
Single title: Learning To Breathe
Artist: Revere
Label: Albino
Commonly described as the UK's answer to Broken Social Scene, London-based eight-piece Revere are slowly building up a reputable name. Offering an enticing package of sweeping string arrangements, infused with piano and subtle brass and accompanied by emotive vocals, it's likely their popularity will continue to grow. However, no new ground is broken with their latest single, as comparisons to contemporaries, albeit favourable, come all too easily. Sounding like the melancholic rhythms of Elbow (with Ellis's voice bearing an uncanny resemblance to that of Guy Garvey) mixed with the stylings of early Rufus Wainwright, this is not exactly a bold expedition into uncharted waters.
