Le Reno Amps - Outlaws

Single Review by Jamie Scott | 23 Feb 2009
Single title: Outlaws
Artist: Le Reno Amps
Label: Drift Records
Release date: 23 Feb

Le Reno Amps understand the science of putting a song together. Where to put breaks in, where guitar solos work best - they seem to possess an instinct of how to position things in the conventional places. However, this rockabilly parody seems contrived, made up of ideas scraped from the bottom of a bass bin. A frivolous shrieking voice tries for depraved menace, but it's unconvincing. These Dick Dale-isms are in uninspired hands - they sound like a watery Sluts of Trust, who at least implied that they knew those outlaws first hand. Le Reno Amps claim they are ploughing an unfashionable furrow, but anti-hip music shouldn't be this dull. [Jamie Scott]
