Late of the Pier - Heartbeat

Sets its camp halfway up the road from Gary Numan to Devo

Single title: Heartbeat
Artist: Late of the Pier
Label: Parlophone
Release date: 4 Aug

With electro-pop groups continuing to gain ground on the mainstream music scene, and the genre itself leaving its marks on everything from hip-hop to metal, it's easy to assess that the children of the 80s are making music, and haven't forgotten the tunes pumping out of their pre-pubescent boomboxes. And while most are content to mine the pop-sweet riches of the Me Generation - and Heartbeat certainly does that - Late of the Pier also incorporate the weirdness of the decade, setting up camp halfway up the road from Gary Numan to Devo. This track, with its off-kilter beat and dynamic synth refrain, could keep dancing shoes guessing, but will ultimately make for a good time on the floor. [Jason Morton]

Late of the Pier play Reading and Leeds festivals on 22 and 23 Aug respectively.
