Land Of Talk - Young Bridge

Young Bridge is a standard indie pop tune, closer to The Cardigans than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Single Review by Finbarr Bermingham | 19 May 2008
Single title: Young Bridge
Artist: Land of Talk
Label: One Little Indian
Release date: 26 May

For a few years now, Montréal trio Land of Talk have generated a considerable amount of hype across the pond. Whether they will deliver on this hype is questionable, based solely on this single (re-)release. The focal point of the appeal seems to be the sultry voice of Elizabeth Powell, which whilst considerably alluring, doesn’t compensate for the distinct averageness of everything else audible here. Young Bridge is a standard indie pop tune, closer to The Cardigans than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. As an introduction to the band, it is equal parts unremarkable and disappointing, but a healthy reminder that not everyone from Montréal has the Midas touch.
