Imogen Heap - Goodnight and Go

This isn't manure, it's mature

Single Review by Keir Hind | 15 Jul 2006
Single title: Goodnight and Go
Artist: Imogen Heap
Label: BMG
Imogen Heap, a name which sounds like a brand of compost. But this isn't manure, it's mature. Classy, even. Internet Imogen is a MySpace favourite and there's a suitably synthesised sound to this record, all overlaid beats and whooshy noises. It should be eminently detestable, but it's rather good. Melodic lyrics weave in and out of twinkling strings, soaring organs, and there's even what sounds like a xylophone in there somewhere. What's it about? Who knows, and who cares. It's a summery record that does go somewhere, though where it goes is hard to wrap your head round. Confusing, but cute. [Keir Hind]
