Golden Silvers - Arrows of Eros

Single Review by Jason Morton | 04 Jun 2009
Single title: Arrows of Eros
Artist: Golden Silvers
Label: XL
Release date: 15 Jun

With the likes of MGMT, Late of the Pier and countless others mining '80s synth-pop sounds, it was only a matter of time before a group pursued that period’s more funky diversions. Enter Golden Silvers. Avoiding guitars and amping up a super-freaky synth line, Silvers embellish Arrows of Eros with some inspired harmonies that set them apart from their contemporaries. Lead singer Gwil’s lyrics tell the story of lonely Londoners over handclaps and electric bass - a welcome nostalgia trip. This single doesn’t feel like a mere retread, though: just a carefree pop number that'll show you a good time but won't quite shake your world.
