Embrace - Nature's Law

plays out like a slightly melancholy but ultimately syrupy commercial

Single Review by Jon Mercer | 16 Apr 2006
Single title: Nature's Law
Artist: Embrace
Label: Independiente
Embrace's "Nature's Law" delivers everything it has within the first 51 seconds; lonely piano, Chris Martin inspired vocals, string orchestration, and backing female choir. As a result, this three-minute single plays out like a slightly melancholy but ultimately syrupy commercial. What keeps this piece together is that the actual song arrangement is quite good in a 90s sort of way. Unfortunately, by the third chorus, there are so many contradicting lyrics that I have no idea what Nature's Law is all about. Danny McNamara sings "now everything has meaning, but meaning brings me down." Maybe the un-edited LP version fills us in a bit more? [Jon Mercer]
This single is released on March 20.
