Dirty Projectors – Stillness Is The Move

In four years between 2002 and 2006, Dirty Projectors went through 27 band members. That’s a turnover to put even your most harried of rock supergroups to shame. But all is not as chaotic as it appears for the Brooklyn band, because it was always really the vehicle of songwriter Dave Longstreth and a loosely orbiting ring of musicians. Now though, Longstreth has settled on a firm(ish) line-up, and the resultant sound is similarly focussed. Stillness Is The Move is a spindly jam of afrobeat guitar and RnB vibe, played out as it is upon Amber Coffman’s Mariah-esque vocal range.
