Dirty Pretty Things - Deadwood

Carl Barat may be branching out with Dirty Pretty Things but all he's uncovered is rotting deadwood

Single Review by Billy Hamilton | 15 Jul 2006
Single title: Deadwood
Artist: Dirty Pretty Things
Label: Mercury
There was once a time for heroes; when ramshackle jingles and poetic nationalism were the quintessential ingredients for success. But that era has passed - the icons exposed as washed up egoists and stolid romantics. Deadwood's albion inspired ska-punk may shuffle like a pair of battered Converse but the sweaty odour of The Libertines remains as pungent as ever. With chimney-sweep strumming accompanied by Carl Barat's clumsy lyrics, this track is as frenetic as anything on 'Up The Bracket' but lacks the charming naivety. Barat may be branching out with Dirty Pretty Things but all he's uncovered is rotting deadwood. [Billy Hamilton]

This single is out on July 10.
